The 9th International Women’s Entrepreneurial Challenge (IWEC) was held with Istanbul Chamber of Commerce (ICOC) as the host for the event. IWEC supports enterprising women in various countries of the world since 2007, and extending them special awards, saw 27 women awarded this year. The list of award recipients include Zehra Taşkesenlioğlu and Hatice Güner Kal as well. The theme of this year's IWEC Summit was 'Connecting Women Businesses Globally: Driving Growth Through Women’s Economic Participation'. More than 100 entrepreneur women from 28 countries attended the summit.
IWEC Chairperson A. Davis said "Thanks to the meeting in Istanbul, we are able to hear about significant experiences from many countries. The network of entrepreneur women expands the capabilities of businesses and is crucial to ensure the development of international markets."
WOMEN LEADING THE CHANGE
Hatice Dinçbal Kal (Turkey): We realized that investment in women and their education, trusting them, investing in their future is crucial and will undoubtedly produce a generation of very successful businesswomen.
Huda Mohammad Abdullah Janahi (Bahrain): We ventured into freight business by buying a second-hand truck with a capital of 4 thousand Dollars. They told me that, as a woman, I would not be granted the license required to clear goods at the customs. We worked hard for two years, and secured the amendment of the law.
Wendy Kemp (South Africa): We divest 13 percent of our revenues on harassed children. The key is to be able to share your dreams with others.
