Among the world’s biggest financial centers, there are some big names like New York, London, and Tokyo – they are the cities that have stayed at the top of their game for decades.
But there are also many emerging cities from the developing world that have increasingly started to challenge the well established position of the big names – they provide international investors access to some of the world’s fastest growing financial markets and a whole new potential in places like East Asia, Middle East, and Africa.
An analysis of the Global Financial Cities Index’s most recent edition in comparison to that of 2010 was carried out to determine such emergent cities and new hubs of financial activity.
Despite Turkey’s political and economic conditions which might be difficult at times, İstanbul has taken the top spot in the Eastern Europe and Central Asia category, rising 30 places since the 2010 ranking.
